For those of us looking into areas of Mexico for our family history, there are a lot of maps and images out there labeling the states and cities of Mexico. This map here, provided by the Houston Institute for Culture is one of my favorites. This map is not just an image, but by clicking the various states names, it takes you to a history of that state. Also, there are other links that provides information on the various languages and also on the Aztec Empire.

I am sure all you fellow genealogists follow many other blogs as I do, outside of the Tumblr world. One of these that I follow is a blog called We Are Cousins. In today’s entry, Moises, the owner of We Are Cousins, discusses a piece of software that he uses in his transcription work.
"Transcript" is a free downloadable software that will enable the user to have the document you are transcribing into the top half of the screen and on the bottom half will be the text editor portion which will allow you to transcribe your record using only one screen. I am not too sure about everyone else, but I know that I always have my record in one screen and in a separate screen is my word processor and I toggle between the two, along with a language translator page to assist with the language, so really I am on three separate pages attempting to transcribe one record. I have not yet tried this new software but am anxious to see how well it works. For everyone who wants to check it out, please use the following link: http://www.jacobboerema.nl/en/Freeware.htm Also, here is a link to the We Are Cousins blog:http://www.wearecousins.info/2011/11/transcript-makes-transcribing-in-genealogy-easier/ |
